color me surprised: i really like adam lambert's new single.
*
i checked out the MoMA website to view the current exhibitions and my heart flew out of my chest when i saw the musuem was currently featuring gabriel orozco, one of my favorite contemporary artists. but then i noticed the exhibit ends on march 1. oh no! i'm freaking going to miss the exhibit; i arrive in nyc the third week of march. damn!!
*
but, oh readers, the MoMA gods smiled down on me and gifted me with another exhibit. this one features the work of marina abramović, another of my favorite artists. yes!! and her exhibit runs through may. oh yes. i'm so there.
*
sade was right: it's never as good as the first time.
*

a poetics of suspicion: Chicana/o poetry and the new
from puerto de sol:
J. Michael Martinez & Jordan Windholz
...one must have a politically and economically viable identity in order to willingly lose it, to throw it to the wind. Those who say that for aesthetic reasons identity is dead, fragmented, or passé, often have a viable identity
they do not need to worry about. Being invisible or visible as a white male
is quite different than being invisible or visible as a Chicana/o.

CantoMundo Master Poetry Workshop
Dear Latina and Latino poets,
We are inviting applications for the Inaugural CantoMundo Master Poetry Workshop, the only national, poetry-centered workshop/retreat specifically for Latina/o poets.
Inspired by the culturally-rooted visions of Cave Canem and Kundiman, CantoMundo seeks to create a space where Latina/o poets can:
1. nurture and enhance their poetics;
2. lecture and learn about aspects of Latina/o poetics currently not being discussed by the mainstream poetry publishers and critics; and

In addition to the workshops, a guest lecture and a craft lecture will be presented. Applicants are free to submit a proposal for a craft lecture to cover a topic of their choice.
CantoMundo also will include a reading and book-signing that will be open to the public.
The three-day retreat will culminate in a visioning session where participants will discuss and plan the subsequent CantoMundo gathering. All participants will be asked to provide input and volunteer time to this collaborative and cooperative resource for Latina/o poets.

hottie not
i was asked to take down my last "hottie of the week" post. so i did. i really don't know how to feel about it.
i'm a bit upset and i'm bit perplexed but mostly i'm thinking why am i even giving this a second thought.
but i'm giving it a second thought.
the "hottie of the week" is just a silly feature on my blog. heck, it's nonsense. i guess some people are offended/made uncomfortable by nonsense.
oh well.
ps
i hope the person who asked me to take it down doesn't email me trying to further "explain" the reasoning. i don't want to hear it. i will delete the emails without reading them.
i am taking this personally! ha.
okay, enough of this nonsense! time for new nonsense!

fluffernutter bits
working on a new poem. it's titled "to james" and it's about vermont, james allen hall, cigarettes, rivers, loneliness, gossip, and the rain.
*
january is already over. wow.
*
last night i finished a poem i've been revising for four years. hmm. i don't think "finished" is the right word. what word did valery use instead? ah, yes: abandoned.
*
“sad are only those who understand”
*
i just spilled some coffee on my lap. don't worry, faithful readers! it's iced coffee.
*
d.a. powell strikes again: the fluffer talks of eternity.
*
i'm giggling!
*
confession: i didn't apply to yaddo and macdowell this month. i was going to apply, but then i realized that i'm broke. ha. so instead i'm going to spend my summer working.
*
i miss sabrina orah mark.
*
just a warning: don't google image the word "fluffer!"
*
today at work i saw the most handsome mexican man. dark brown skin. moustache. grass-stained jeans. old work boots. as he walked past me i thought: there goes my muse.
*
