from The Miami Herald: Contemporary Latino poets mix it up
Castro belongs to a broadening wave of contemporary Latino poets whose identities branch beyond the expectations of heritage. Vying for more visibility within American letters, they tight-rope between sustaining cultural history and seeking the new ground that keeps art vigorous. Esteemed politically charged writers such as Martín Espada and Lorna Dee Cervantes are now joined by younger poets whose dialogue can veer far from the familiar themes of protest or magical realism.
