aren't they cute? i've seen other fellows feed them apples and carrots. i haven't done that. i'm a bit scared of their teeth. i need all my fingers.

Put the apple pieces or carrots in the palm of your hand and hold your hand flat to feed them. They will lip up the goodies. I promise.

I was going to say that too. You know, based on all my equestrian experience living here in the Bronx...
ditto what Leslie said: a nice flat hand and they will nab it up with their giants lips.
